Allergies

I have no known food allergies. The only allergies I have, that I know of, include smoke and dust which really irritates my eyes (and causes headaches). Then there’s my allergic rhinitis.

So I pretty much eat anything.

On Sunday afternoon, the beginning of my weekend, I felt itchy all over my body. I thought it was just mosquito bites because there’s swelling involved (how do you say pantal in English?) It did feel weird though: why would I have insect bites even under my clothes? I passed it off thinking that maybe it was just the heat. I dozed to sleep now and then in front of the tv and didn’t pay much attention to the itchies. When I woke up on Monday morning to take a shower though, I saw just how bad things were. I had big blotches all over my belly, on my back, arms and legs. Even my feet were starting to itch. Scrubbing myself clean didn’t help although water helped cool me down and I felt relieved for a bit. I put powder all over where there were breakouts, thinking to myself that maybe I got exposed to higad somewhere. But when and where?

I still didn’t take it seriously. Until after having lunch (KFC chicken). Oh my goodness, I could not take it any longer. I asked the boyfriend to scratch my back and he saw them ugly blotches. I wanted to stop scratching really, and he kept trying to reprimand me lest I end up hurting myself and cause some bleeding. I couldn’t stop! He took some ice and rubbed them over the itchiest parts. That helped soothe me, but not for long. Then I felt some of the swelling on my neck crawling up to my cheeks. I started getting scared, should we go to the hospital? Neither one of us drives. Having three cars outside at our disposal was useless to me. The brother was sleeping and I didn’t really feel like waking him up unless it was an emergency. I called my mom: do we have anti-allergy meds here? No. I sent cousin Ada a message: do you calamine lotion at home? Nope. The boyfriend couldn’t stand it anymore, so he volunteered to go to the drugstore and get me some meds. It was hot when he went out, and he had to walk all the way there and back. He looked toasted when he got back, haha. But perhaps that’s because he hit the beach on Black Saturday while staying with his family in Bicol.

It was pink stuff that finally started to give me some relief. Caladryl/Calamine lotion is something we used to have around the house when I was a kid. This time though, Caladryl isn’t as pink as it used to. And they don’t dry up like chalk. It felt cool and soothing. Much like how aloe would feel on your skin. He also bought Benadryl, they’re pink too.

Pink Benadryl

I was able to sleep early thanks to the Benadryl, and it was a deep sleep too. I woke up briefly before midnight as the boyfriend was saying goodbye and taking off for work. Then again at 530 when my brother came home from work. The only time I really got up though was around 7am. The blotches on my arms were almost gone, but the ones under my clothes were still there. And there’s still some itching, though not as strong as yesterday’s. If there’s one good thing that came out of this though, it’s that I’ve had plenty of sleep again.  Though there are things to worry about, at least it doesn’t include searching around for the best eye cream for dark circles. Now if only I could sleep so soundly every work night, minus the allergies while I’m awake…

So what triggered the reaction? I don’t know! I had shrimp sinigang for lunch on Sunday, cooked by my dad. I love shrimps and I sure hope that’s not what I’m allergic to 🙁 Alfred says maybe it’s rice, since things got worse after eating rice and chicken for Monday’s lunch. Ugh. I still don’t know. Maybe it’s the heat again.

Dilbert and Garfield

Years back, I subscribed to receive daily strips from Dilbert and Garfield. I don’t get to read them everyday though. So I was cleaning out my mailbox just now and saw these two for March 30th:

How do you feel today?

March Entrecard Roundup – Thank you!

It’s April Fools’ Day! Did you get pranked? Did you pull a practical joke on anyone? I didn’t. I thought about tweeting a line knowing that it would automatically be shown on my FB status. Something like – we’re no longer together; or it would have been – hiwalay na kami (we’ve split up). I just wanted to see if friends and family would react. Then I would have said, April Fools! and that it’s only because the boyfriend is in Bicol, spending the holidays with his family. But I couldn’t do it. corny din eh. 🙂

I haven’t been able to solve the mystery of the missing sidebars. Thank you Calvin for the suggestion, but it was the same even without the Adgi code. I will try other options this weekend…

It’s been sooo hot that even as I was very sleepy when I got home from work about five hours ago, I only managed a short nap and then became wide awake. The heat during Holy Week is killer! Our usually sufficient stand fan isn’t enough, reminds me of our old house that had a ceiling fan right at the center of the room that does an awesome job circulating cool air. With the heat we’re experiencing now though, even a ceiling fan may no longer be enough, you need a stand fan to compliment it!

Hay. I don’t have much time as I’m really supposed to be in bed by now, but I wanted to take time out to thank my Top EC droppers for the month! Time to drop ECs and place ads again 🙂

Thank you for my consistent droppers, I hope to see more of you in my comments boxes too 🙂

MIA

MIA. That is me.

Let’s just say that I’ve enjoyed non-verabear.net related activities lately and they’re keeping me away from posting.

We should be back to regular programming sooooooon. 😉

Oh by the way, I have subscribed to my own feeds to receive an email for each post I publish. Doing so made me realize that my photos are not showing up in my feeds. I figured that it’s because I never did disable hotlinking to my images.

Problem is, I need to edit my htaccess file, and I can’t find it even when I’m logged in via FTP. Grr.

World Taxi

I go to work after midnight, and I don’t drive. So for about four/five years, I have had to wait around for cabs to pass thru and because it’s late, there isn’t always one available right when you need it. Our house is located along inner streets and public transportation is a good 15-minute walk away, so even when I was on the day shift I would rather wait for a cab than walk under the sun. Okay I don’t always have to wait around, very rarely I am able to convince my dad to drive me to work. 🙂 So anyway, around September last year I started reporting to work around 1-2 in the morning. There aren’t that many cabs passing thru our area at that time but I would just stand there at the bridge and wait until one came along. I was fortunate enough to hail a cab with the franchise called World. The nice driver gave me their contact numbers and advised me to give them a call so I wouldn’t have to wait around late at night. Of course, I didn’t take his advice.

Then it was the boyfriend’s turn to get on another World taxi and he was told the same thing. That was the only time I actually decided to give them a try. True enough, every time I call, they would send a cab within 3 to 10 minutes. And I have yet to meet a driver who was rude or would take advantage. Their meters are calibrated too. I always pay 50 pesos. The boyfriend who works in Makati has had the chance to compare a World taxi meter with those from other cab companies and World was very consistent, and turned out cheaper.

One time, I didn’t have 50 pesos on me, just a 20 peso bill and a 500 bill. The driver (we call him Good Morning because he always greets me and wouldn’t stop until I greet him back, in a nice and not annoying way), was nice enough to accept my 20 pesos and say that I can just pay him back next time.

When we attended Tengkie’s wedding last month, we were able to hail a World Taxi from the Malate church. This was a cab we don’t remember being on before, and the cabbie wasn’t familiar with us, at least not until we were in our area an hour later. It was an interesting ride because he told us about the company and how good the owners were to their drivers. They have benefits that other cab companies don’t offer their drivers. No wonder the cabbies were nice and decent, they didn’t have to engage in shady business to earn an extra buck.

The only downside really is that their units aren’t new so from the outside they look shabby and you would think that they probably have bad air conditioning. That’s not true though. Sometimes it can even be cold inside, lol. They also don’t have a receipt printer on their meters like some other companies do. Good news though is that they will be upgrading their units this year with Toyota Altis ones.

So if you’re ever in need of cab services, give World Taxi a call at 4109708. Their garage is at Roces Ave, Quezon City, but they can be all over the Metro, just tell them where you are and they will tell you if they can pick you up or not.
