SBD Thoughts and June Entrecard Round-up

Wow! June’s come and gone. Today’s the first of July, my birthday month! I shared plans for a giveaway contest, but I haven’t finalized it yet. Di bale, there are 31 days in July, enough time to plan, launch, and execute (I hope!).

That’s a screen capture of May’s EC top droppers on this blog. When I checked my stats page today, I see that the top ten has changed a bit. Never the less, I welcome them/you all to my space under the moon, and THANK YOU for your visits, your clicks, and most especially, your comments. 🙂

I’ve been thinking about doing the South Beach Diet again. This time around though, I’d be getting the services of The Sexy Chef. They’ll prepare all your meals for the day and deliver them to your doorstop. Everyday for two weeks. The only catch is that it costs 875 pesos a day (~USD19). Not. Cheap. I think that having someone else prepare it for me for the first two weeks may be a big help. Plus, having the food already there will definitely keep me from eating anything else. The cost will also be an everyday reminder that I have to take this seriously.

But 12k is not easy money. So I really have to think about this well. All I have to do is give them my name and the delivery address, then pay in full on the first delivery. Hmm.

I did SBD many many years ago. I had the Metro magazine that featured the diet when it was popular back then, had my aunt help me draw up a meal plan for two weeks, then I tried my best to stick with it. I prepared my own food for the most part! It was a success, I really did lose weight. But then I started to work at NCO where there were free meals, and my schedules changed. I forgot all about it and my weight doubled since.

The truth is, the problem is that I don’t have the discipline to stick to an exercise plan. And having someone else prepare my SBD meals for me will not cure that. I am hoping that the boyfriend will be the force behind it. He’s not exactly the best example, but with the money we’ll spend on the food, he’s bound to breathe down my neck everyday to be sure I exercise too for maximum effect. Lol 🙂

Or I could always just prepare the food myself, or have Alfred make them para dalawa kami. But I don’t have the info anymore. I even bought the book second-hand last year only to be claimed by Ondoy. I’ll check out the magazine stand for back issues of Metro, there’s an ABS-CBN Publishing kiosk in the office, maybe they have it. Kaya lang, would they still carry a 2004/2005 issue? Good luck na lang. I’ll try that, draw up a plan and see if that’s more doable. Right now though, I can already say that going the Sexy Chef way sounds easier. 🙂

Happy Birthday, Dodong! :)

The boyfriend turns 31 today. Happy birthday babe! 🙂

If we had a Max’s dinner last year for his birthday, this time we had a pre-birthday eat-all-you-can dinner feast. Then, we sang our hearts out at videoke. At 12 mn we were in a booth at Centerstage, Morato. What were we singing? I already forgot! He was drinking below zero Negra, while I was having a Mudslide.

It was a fun night, and believe it or night, I wasn’t the only one belting out OPM tunes. He was too! I wonder if the practice he had last night will have him singing videoke in front of others? Maybe not. Hehe.

This photo was taken at exactly 12 midnight, June 8th. Haha 🙂

I love you, babe. This is going to be another wonderful year for you, more amazing than the last one. 🙂

Buffalo’s Wings N’ Things

For dinner on Sunday, after a day of shopping, food, and the movies, I decided to take up a former colleague’s recommendation. We tried Buffalo’s Wings N’ Things.

I’m not really into spicy food, but I wanted to try their Buffalo wings. Besides, we were in the mood for a little adventure. Their Menu board was very simple, it’s obvious that they focused on one thing. Their Buffalo Wings.

The space was quite spartan too. You had tables and chairs, TVs, big mirrors, and photos on the wall. Nothing fancy. You’d know that the people who went there go for the wings. And for drinks. 🙂 I liked the space. I liked the mirrors on one wall with New York City quotes:

And the opposite wall of NY city photo prints:

I found it inspiring. I told the boyfriend that we could select among our favorite photos and have them printed that way. We just don’t have a wall to hang them on yet.

Of course, the main attraction: the Buffalo wings.

I had half a pound with their New York’s Finest sauce, with fries. I figured I could take a step higher than The Rookie. And you know what? It was just right for me. It was spicy, but I could take it. The boyfriend broke a sweat with half a pound of chicken in their Nuclear sauce and two servings of their Dirty Rice. It was one step down from the spiciest sauce in the house. Mine was spicy enough, I couldn’t even begin to imagine how hot his were.  At first he goes, oh well it’s okay. A few seconds later, it hit him. Our conclusion: they sure know what they’re in business for! 🙂

It was a perfect way to end the day. What made the meal special wasn’t just the good food we shared. It was all that and hanging out having a good conversation.

Delifrance

Sunday after work, we headed to Greenhills for a movie date. Upon learning that the next showing of Clash of the Titans was about an hour away, we decided to grab some lunch first. When we’re there we normally eat at the usual places: Max’s, Burgoo, House of Mini. On Sunday though, Alfred wasn’t hungry because he had lunch at home before picking me up in the office (his mom prepared early lunch for him). He was okay anywhere I wanted to go as long as he can have something to cool down.

Delifrance was the choice.

Whenever I dine at Delifrance, I eat something different. They don’t have a huge menu selection, but there are so many dishes that I enjoyed in the past and a lot I would still like to try. I featured Delifrance once before, a year earlier in fact, when I had my Spirometry test. Choosing a dish wasn’t easier this time around. I went with a set lunch, Tray Couture I think they called it. I forgot the name of the set I chose, but it had shrimp linguine and french dip roast beef sandwich. It also came with chocolate for dessert, bread sticks and a shot of some soup. It came with a free drink too, and I chose Iced Tea.

The boyfriend just ordered a tall glass of Strawberry frappe, it was very refreshing.

We were thinking of ordering more nga eh, but decided against it. These drinks aren’t exactly what you’d call cheap.

I was super hungry already but I still managed to snap a few shots of my tray before eating everything on it:

We actually thought that the bread sticks had a sweet dip, that was until I tried it. It was soup in a shot glass! I think it was a simple mushroom soup, but it was tasty and I liked it.

I dipped the bread sticks in the soup, but when I finished up all the sticks, I drank all the soup that was left. I was trying to go for it in one shot, but it proved too much for me. Hehe. I finished it off in two swigs.

Of course, I didn’t just concentrate on my food the entire time. The boyfriend and I did talk about stuff. Like his get-together dinner with grade school classmates the night before. I didn’t actually know he was going anywhere until after the fact, but that’s okay. He mentioned feeling like he didn’t really know them anymore. They were strangers. That got me thinking about reunions and seeing old acquaintances. I’m not big on those things either. I guess there are just a few people who I know things would be like time was not a factor. I’d rather meet with them in small groups and not in big get-togethers. I know of some people who keep tabs on their old batchmates. Networking. It comes in handy too for others, who use their contacts to find a job, or to get referrals for projects and such. That’s not such a bad thing too.

Next up, the main course.

I loved the shrimp and tomato linguine! Okay, I’m not sure if that’s exactly how it’s called, but that’s what I remember 🙂

I think though that this is just half a serving, so it wasn’t that filling. I figured I had to eat the sandwich too before I’d get full. I saved it for last because I love roast beef sandwiches and I had high expectations for this one.

Sadly, my expectations were not met. It was a little too bland for me, even with the dip. 🙁 Of course that didn’t stop me from finish it all off. Last on the plate was dessert, a small piece of chocolate. Nothing special about it, but it was a nice touch to complete the meal.

Finally, I got chocolate madelines to go. Something sweet to munch on in the cinema.

What’s your favorite meal from Delifrance? 🙂

Oh, but you know what? This wasn’t the last meal for the day. I’d reserve another blog post for where we had dinner after the movie and some shopping. 😉

Allergies

I have no known food allergies. The only allergies I have, that I know of, include smoke and dust which really irritates my eyes (and causes headaches). Then there’s my allergic rhinitis.

So I pretty much eat anything.

On Sunday afternoon, the beginning of my weekend, I felt itchy all over my body. I thought it was just mosquito bites because there’s swelling involved (how do you say pantal in English?) It did feel weird though: why would I have insect bites even under my clothes? I passed it off thinking that maybe it was just the heat. I dozed to sleep now and then in front of the tv and didn’t pay much attention to the itchies. When I woke up on Monday morning to take a shower though, I saw just how bad things were. I had big blotches all over my belly, on my back, arms and legs. Even my feet were starting to itch. Scrubbing myself clean didn’t help although water helped cool me down and I felt relieved for a bit. I put powder all over where there were breakouts, thinking to myself that maybe I got exposed to higad somewhere. But when and where?

I still didn’t take it seriously. Until after having lunch (KFC chicken). Oh my goodness, I could not take it any longer. I asked the boyfriend to scratch my back and he saw them ugly blotches. I wanted to stop scratching really, and he kept trying to reprimand me lest I end up hurting myself and cause some bleeding. I couldn’t stop! He took some ice and rubbed them over the itchiest parts. That helped soothe me, but not for long. Then I felt some of the swelling on my neck crawling up to my cheeks. I started getting scared, should we go to the hospital? Neither one of us drives. Having three cars outside at our disposal was useless to me. The brother was sleeping and I didn’t really feel like waking him up unless it was an emergency. I called my mom: do we have anti-allergy meds here? No. I sent cousin Ada a message: do you calamine lotion at home? Nope. The boyfriend couldn’t stand it anymore, so he volunteered to go to the drugstore and get me some meds. It was hot when he went out, and he had to walk all the way there and back. He looked toasted when he got back, haha. But perhaps that’s because he hit the beach on Black Saturday while staying with his family in Bicol.

It was pink stuff that finally started to give me some relief. Caladryl/Calamine lotion is something we used to have around the house when I was a kid. This time though, Caladryl isn’t as pink as it used to. And they don’t dry up like chalk. It felt cool and soothing. Much like how aloe would feel on your skin. He also bought Benadryl, they’re pink too.

Pink Benadryl

I was able to sleep early thanks to the Benadryl, and it was a deep sleep too. I woke up briefly before midnight as the boyfriend was saying goodbye and taking off for work. Then again at 530 when my brother came home from work. The only time I really got up though was around 7am. The blotches on my arms were almost gone, but the ones under my clothes were still there. And there’s still some itching, though not as strong as yesterday’s. If there’s one good thing that came out of this though, it’s that I’ve had plenty of sleep again.  Though there are things to worry about, at least it doesn’t include searching around for the best eye cream for dark circles. Now if only I could sleep so soundly every work night, minus the allergies while I’m awake…

So what triggered the reaction? I don’t know! I had shrimp sinigang for lunch on Sunday, cooked by my dad. I love shrimps and I sure hope that’s not what I’m allergic to 🙁 Alfred says maybe it’s rice, since things got worse after eating rice and chicken for Monday’s lunch. Ugh. I still don’t know. Maybe it’s the heat again.
