Yummy chicken sandwich

This is crazy! Last night, I had to delay leaving for work because it rained non-stop and the creek overflowed leaving the street out front flooded.  I wasn’t happy about having to trod through two-inch thick (and yucky smelling) mud at two in the morning when the water subsided just so I could go to work.  We cancelled what would have been our impromptu team building activity (supposedly at a private pool) because we thought it’d still be raining today.  But guess what? The sun was up, and it’s been super HOT all day! Crazy!

Don’t get me wrong, I am happy that the storm has left Philippine territory because it has done too much damage and took one life too many. But the weather’s been too unpredictable you don’t know whether to accept that summer’s gone by and we have had no vacation to speak of, or if there’s still enough summer left to make quick plans.  Ugh.

Oh and one more. Because it was hot and the sun was up this morning, the mud from last night has dried and is even more foul smelling than when it was wet.  Waaah! Where are the local officials when you really need them? Hello, clean up brigade please?

While I was at work today, I was surprised to see the mother from the reality show Jon and Kate Plus Eight on the headlines at the MSN homepage.  Apparently, a tabloid released a story about Jon cheating on Kate.  Jon denies it, and the girl that he was rumored to have been playing hooky with also denies the allegations made by her brother. It’s sad that they’re in the middle of such a controversy.  I enjoy watching the show because I love kids – but I can never imagine myself having that many kids, all at the same time!

I shared lunch with Ingrid today at The Loop (hi Ingrid! :)) It was the busiest I’d seen The Loop so far – we had to settle for the bar-like areas because there were no more tables left.  I also noticed for the first time that what used to be Figaro was already boarded up.  I hadn’t been buying from Country Style for awhile, but I used to buy salad for lunch there a lot when I was still in the midshift (just this time last year – a loooooong time ago).  I finally was able to have their Traditional Chicken Sandwich!

Tomorrow I’m attending a basic digital photography class, and Jo will be joining that too! Yay! We get to explore our D60s together! (I’m excited, can you tell? 🙂 )

Knocked Up

We went to the Megamall on Sunday with one purpose in mind – to buy pants for the boyfriend.  Soon as we got there though, we saw racks of CDs and DVDs on sale.  We seized the chance to buy original at reasonable prices 🙂 Among the titles we picked up was Knocked Up. I forgot that I’ve already actually seen it!  But it wasn’t a complete waste because I really liked it and didn’t mind seeing it again. After watching Be Kind Rewind on cable on Monday afternoon, we popped this Katherine Heigl starrer in the DVD player.

Soon I realized that I had already seen the movie! Does that mean it was forgettable? Hmm, I have to admit it’s not something you’d really remember, as if it was profound or because of cheesy lines, or quotable lines.  But it was fun to watch.

Allison and Ben really were an odd couple.  But it also just goes to show that when both parties are devoted to making a relationship work, then it might actually work.

Be Kind Rewind

Yesterday turned out to be Movie Monday.  I was feeling so bad after sleeping for 12 hours (totally not the result I was aiming for) and had to puke twice.  So I lay on the couch for the most part of the day and zoned out in front of the TV.  The Bachelor was up first and, I must say, no matter how many times I see the film – I will tune in and love it all over again.  After crushing on Chris O’Donnell and Renee Zellwegger, the dashing genius Jack Black was up with Be Kind Rewind. 🙂  If you plan on seeing the movie and you’re not interested in a spoiler, stop reading and grab a copy of the film already!

Set in Passaic, New Jersey, the story revolves around the VHS rental shop Be Kind Rewind owned by Danny Glover’s character Mr. Fletcher.  The shop, along with the building where it’s situated at, is at a declining state.  In fact, town officials have given Mr. Fletcher a demolition date and he can stop it only when he is able to make the necessary improvements before the set deadline.

Helping Mr. Fletcher at the shop is a young man called Mike.  The shop is entrusted to him when Mr. Fletcher decides to go on a trip to scout the competition that has DVD rentals.  Of course, he doesn’t tell Mike that’s where he’s going. As far as everyone else knows, Mr. F was off on a memorial for Jazz legend Fats Waller who was supposedly born in Mr. F’s building.  Jerry (played by Jack Black) is high on conspiracy theories, and he believes that The Power Plant is messing with everyone’s brains.  On the first night that Mr. F is away, Jerry convinces Mike to go with him to sabotage the Power Plant.  While crossing over the fence, Mike realizes what Mr. Fletcher’s parting message was at the train stop: Keep Jerry Out.  He decides to abandon the sabotage and leave Jerry to his crazy schemes.  But an accident happens, and Jerry is electrocuted.

The next day, Jerry comes in to the shop in a daze and a bad temper.  He kept on re-arranging the videos on the shelves and annoyed the sole customer in the shop that day.  Mike manages to throw him out, but little did any of them know that the damage has been done.  As a result of the accident, Jerry has become magnetized and all the videos have been erased.

In his fear of disappointing Mr. Fletcher, Mike was forced to come up with a way to rent out the Ghostbusters to Mia Farrow’s character in the movie.  He dragged Jerry to make what they later called a Sweded version of the movie, armed with one camera and lots of imagination.  The version gains popularity, and soon, customers were paying huge money to request sweded versions of their favorite films.  The business was doing great, until there was hope that Mr. Fletcher may finally afford to pay for renovations.  But the government came and destroyed all of the sweded movies for copyright infringement. All of the store’s assetts were seized too.

Everyone thought that was the end of Be Kind Rewind, and Mr. Fletcher’s building.  Mike speaks up and says they could apply to declare the building a historical landmark being Waller’s birthplace.  But that prompts Mr. F to admit that the story wasn’t true – that it was just a bedtime story he shared with Mike, and couldn’t retract.

The people of Passaic didn’t give up though, they were determined to fight it out. They decided that they needed to make an all original movie, and who else would it be about?  Their hero, Fats Waller.

7th Heaven

I knew I must have had a post that mentioned the marathon, at least once. And I found it on my truffles post last year and in this post too.  I’m surprised there aren’t any from previous years.  Hmm…

Every year at Lent (for how long I don’t remember anymore), Studio 23 runs a 7th Heaven marathon at daytime.  And we always watch. Always.  I love this series, I wish they’d release a DVD set of all the seasons. I think it’s the only one I have yet to find. I’m not losing hope though, we did find the complete set of The ’70s Show didn’t we?

What year did Studio 23 start showing 7th Heaven?  I don’t remember. But I know that for years, we’d always tune in no matter what night it would be shown.  And even if I already saw it, I’d still see the marathon.  I really just love that family.  Ruthie used to be my favorite, but now that she’s so grown up, she can be bratty no?  I love Matt! He’s gorgeous isn’t he? Hahaha 🙂

That’s how they looked in the beginning, and they grew up right before our eyes.  Man, there’s a lot of kissing in this show haha. Now, more than ever, I want a DVD set of all the seasons! Someone find me one!

One thing I really miss about being in school or working elsewhere is having long holidays, having the week off for Lent.  Mom and Dad have been home all week, and though they didn’t get to leave, they were planning to drive somewhere, like what we used to do before. And I haven’t been to church once this season though I probably shouldn’t blame that one on work.

Anyways… I was trying to find great deals on DSLRs, you guys know we’ll soon shop around for one right? I just don’t know where to look for a bargain, a camera shop that goes on a big sale maybe? Hehe.  Anyways, when you start looking around for a camera, so many sites featuring other gadgets try to  grab your attention too.  From jumping from one site to another, I found myself looking at featured deals at Buy.com.  It’s a wonderful idea to have comparison sites that help you find the best deals available.  If only there’d be something that would feature products that I can actually buy around here.

….OMG. The Glenoak congregation is singing You are my sunshine for the Reverend’s miracle, and I can’t help but feel like crying.  Not because i feel happy that the Rev is well.  But because it still reminds me so much of my grandma…

Geoff Egeinman crosses over to GMA

Affected ako? Haha.

Sunday afternoons are dedicated to showbiz talk shows, and for some reason, we landed on GMA’s Showbiz Central where Geoff Egeinman was being interviewed.  He has left ABS-CBN and is being welcomed by the rival network. I’ve watched his ABS shows – Hiram, then the other one with Heart, and finally Lobo. He’s become a hunk already, and has really improved on his acting although his speech still needs a lot of work (it just doesn’t sound natural when he speaks in Filipino, diba?).

Anyway… why am I so affected? Wala naman. Maybe it’s just because my mind can’t process anything serious this late in the day. It’s almost 6pm, and my day started at 11PM last night.

So…
