I started stalking Phoebe’s blog due to last year’s Sweet November giveaway. When the giveaway was done and I didn’t win any of her fab packages, I stayed subscribed because I was interested in her product reviews. She’s a beauty blogger and sometimes I wish I was as savvy with taking care of my skin and face as she is.
For her birthday this year, she’s hosting another giveaway and there are 3 stashes up for grabs!
Each stash looks so full and a lot of beauty essentials in there too. Joining is easy, and if you have a suggestion for Phoebe’s new do, then you’ll have an edge over other entrants. So head on over to Phoebeann.Com and learn more about this fantabulous giveaway!
I got a couple of things bugging me since last night, and that’s not good when you’re driving (believe me!). I’ll write about them too, unless other things takeover. So here’s a non-beauty related mini-rant: A little annoyed that my work PC wasn’t moved over the weekend. Maybe they can repair one of the unused pedestals there and replace the casters so I have some place to store my bag and papers instead of crashing in on other people’s workstations. Better yet, have the thing repaired so two of my TLs can share it (after waiting in line for over a year!).
I work in customer service and know how it feels when the good you do is under appreciated, and the bad experiences are magnified three-fold. So I am taking the time out to say thank you to Nick Roach of Elegant Themes for very good customer service.
Last year, I was theme hunting and Elegant Themes seemed to be the perfect solution to my needs. It came highly recommended too.
But a year later and all I have is one site using one of their themes. They’ve got a lovely selection, but I just can’t get to customize them to my own tastes. It’s not their fault, I didn’t spend enough time learning to adapt the themes to what I wanted.
So last year I registered and every once and awhile I would go into my account and download themes and try them out. But I realized it would be a waste of money to renew this year if I wasn’t going to maximize the membership. I thought I had already cancelled the auto payment in Paypal, but I went in today and found that I had been charged for another year of Elegant Themes. I cancelled the auto renewal and then quickly sent an email via the Contact form at ET. I asked nicely for a refund, but I wasn’t betting on it.
I checked my mailbox a few hours later and there it was, I had been refunded. No questions asked, no deductions.
So thank you Nick Roach and Elegant Themes! That was classy.
I was re-arranging the photobooth photos from Amir’s baptism last night in Facebook (not done yet) when I saw this on the sidebar:
(Happy birthday Mayeen!)
Now why did I post that this day two years ago? I clicked on to see the post and read the comments I got, but there’s nothing to clue me in on why I posted it. Hmm. I scanned my blog archives and I skipped the 15th. I posted about seeing And I Love You So on the 14th, maybe it’s a line in the movie? Now, I’m positive that it is.
I think this is a nice feature of FB, showing you what you posted on the same day years ago. OhLife does that too with random past posts in your daily email. I like it. Photojojo also has the Time Capsule for Flickr. I can imagine it must be fun to have that. Okay, why haven’t I signed up to use it again? Oh, because I don’t use Flickr as much. And why not? There, I signed up. You should too.
I have had Evernote on my phone, iPad, and PC for awhile now, but I realize how I haven’t maximized it to its full potential. Here’s a cute ad for this app:
Here’s a very quick pitch for Evernote from its CEO:
So if you skipped the vids, what is Evernote? It’s your wireless, paperless, idea book. No. It’s your idea BAG. It’s a solution to keeping all the information in one place accessible to you – whenever, wherever.
It’s key feature is the ability to add Notebooks. This can be your categories. I think it personally just makes it easier to keep like ideas in the same place. In each notebook, you add notes.
Notes can be your typical typed note. But it can also be an Ink Note – handwritten with your pen tablet. It can be an Audio Note – for those days when you just want to say it and record it. Or it can be a Webcam Note – pretty much self explanatory.
With a browser extension, you can even save clips from websites, or clip entire webpages onto your notes. It’s a like a bookmark – allowing you to save info and links that you can come back to at a later time.
In a way, it’s like Pinterest too, but there’s more you can do!
So far, I have Notebooks set up for each of my blogs in the hopes that I store idea posts in them. I haven’t used it much after the first week or so of finding Evernote. But going through Evernote vids today has just given me another dose of inspiration.
Now, I’ve installed the Google extension for the Web Clipper. So instead of bookmarking sites, I can just clip them onto Evernote!
Hopefully, in a month’s time I can come back to report how Evernote has helped my productivity.
I haven’t felt well in what feels like a long week and a half. Yesterday, I skipped what would have been my 7th shift at work for the week. To some that would seem like a nice way to get in three days for my weekend, but in reality, all I did was sleep and complain about how sore I feel etc. etc.
This morning is actually the first time I’ve felt good in days!
Yesterday afternoon, I forced myself out of bed because of Crazy Idea no. 1: I wanted to see Yeng Constantino in concert at the Aliw Theater that evening. I had to see if I could muster the energy to go the event before committing to it and buying tickets.
First off, we drove to an ATM machine. Then to Pag-Ibig near GMA-EDSA. Alfred got off and paid for my overdue loan payment while I waited in the car. I was hoping we’d go buy tickets after that, but sitting in the car didn’t do me any good – I actually felt more sick and somewhat nauseous. But I could still drive.
Next stop was early dinner. Yesteday’s choice was Jay-J’s Inasal in Timog.
We had Bulalo, one order of wings inasal, and ensaladang mangga. It was good! No photos of the food or the place though, just this crazy photo of badodong wondering what his cup size is (aka Crazy Idea no.2):
Hilarious no?
Jay-Js in Timog pretty much has the same setting as their Ortigas branch. They had very minimal décor, just plain tables and a bench indoor on either side. In Timog, they have an outdoor section at the back – that’s where all those people disappear to! I’ve always wondered how the place could accommodate a big crowd (judging by the number of cars parked outside). Now I know. So yes they also have outdoor furniture bench. That’s also the smoking section (although I’m not sure if they still let people smoke given the new laws on smoking). In Ortigas (I had breakfast there with a colleague last week), they have a small outdoor area up front.
Despite having a wonderful meal, I still wasn’t up for any concert. I regretfully decided to give up on seeing Yeng in concert. The problem wasn’t in keeping up the energy for the concert, but for the drive home.
Rather than driving around in the sunset which was the initial plan B for the day, we headed straight home. But we didn’t really go home right away, we had the iPad with us and decided on an experiment.
We parked outside the house and set up to watch a movie IN the car! Free movie, free aircon. We didn’t have flowing popcorn because we weren’t ready but that’s totally something we’ll do for next time. We didn’t finish the movie though (Inception, haven’t seen the whole flick until now!) because it actually felt stupid to be home but not be home. Haha. But it’s a fun new idea for movie date night, don’t you think?
