I can’t stay long, I almost crashed on top of my keyboard. Very sleepy indeed.
But I couldn’t go without saying thank you to everyone who has supported my Got Heart Planner Giveaway so far and everyone who’s visited in the past couple of days. Β I just don’t have the energy to reply to your comments and checkout your posts. I will though, perhaps tomorrow.
In reference to yesterday’s post, all went well at work last night. Everything was smooth sailing, except for the fact that my PC issues haven’t been sorted out yet (I know IT’s working on it though and I thank them so much for that). Thank you for those who wished me well π
One thing though is that I feel like I haven’t been much help to my boss yet. I appreciate so much that he isn’t pressuring me too much, and he’s not trying to make me digest everything all in one go. But he needs to off-load a lot of work, he’s getting sick already! All I can really do is focus on the job at hand so I can be of real help sooner.
Before I transferred back to the program, they ran an incentive program that was supposed to be just in time for Thanksgiving. Agents earned tickets based on their positive customer satisfaction survey results, and these were raffled off today. There were sooooo many prizes. I gotta say, it beats previous incentives we’ve had whether in this program or the last one I was with. The drawing itself must have taken a full hour to finish.
Prizes included Cheetos and Doritos (consolation prizes clearly), but there were also a lot of home appliances like flat irons, DVD players, microwave ovens, colored TV sets (without the tv stand though), washing machines, and a lot more. Yes, all those are in the plural. The fun thing about the way the raffle was done was that we took turns drawing the names of the winners, and when the person was around, he/she would draw from the jar of prizes. I picked the name of one of our own agents, but he ended up picking a can of Pringles as his prize! LOL π The non agents in attendance (myself included) kept dropping side comments offering to buy the items from the winners, at very low prices of course. I have my eye on one of my agent’s prize – a sandwich maker. π
Enough about my day.
While bloghopping yesterday, I came upon this wonderful project that aims to brighten up the walls of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center:
Here’s a description of the project lifted directly from their site:
Who are we?
Walls of Hope was initiated by a group of friends who have been brought together by their common attachment to the Philippine Childrenβs Medical Center. We were once patients, students and visitors of PCMC who have been inspired by the wall murals found around the hospital (esp. Gloria Villaraza GuzmanβsΒ Munting Patak-ulan).
What is Walls of Hope?
Most of the wall paintings in the hospitalΒ have already deteriorated or have been lost due to time.Β Walls of Hope is our way of giving back to the hospital that once catered to the health needs of our generation back when we were young. This is our attempt to help bring back the hope that the hospital walls has been known to give to its patients and to help sustain it to be experienced by future generations.Β The presence of these colorful murals is a powerful way of relieving stress and easing the hearts and minds of its visitors.
It is a 3-day event scheduled to happen onΒ December 19-21, 2009. Volunteers are not required to be present during the whole duration of the event – even just an hour of your time already means a lot to us! The goal is to finish painting the whole first floor of the hospital inΒ 3 days!
Click on the banner to hop to their page and find out how you can help out. I doubt if I can volunteer to do any painting, but I will look at other options on how I can donate. I’ve personally never been to the PCMC and have no relatives or friends who’ve had kids confined there, but I know that many kids walk these halls and they need a lot of cheering up, to say the least. I would love to help in any little way I can, I hope you would too.
I’ve had this coming for the past several weeks, and yet it’s only now dawning on me that this really is the next level.
For the longest time, I’ve hesitated applying for higher positions because I’m afraid of not meeting the expectations of those who might trust me enough to actually hire me. I’ve stayed put, thinking it was best to stay away from more responsibilities. When the post opened up though, I was like – this is it. Now or never. I realized that the only way to go up was to do so in the company of people who already knew the extent of what I could offer (and I’m telling you, there really isn’t much). I could never have picked a better group of people to help me as I transition into this new role. I know they will be very understanding of me, and that they will willingly provide me with all the help I’m gonna need to find my way around this new role.
Not sure if any of them read my blog, but I’m going to have to ask for their patience. I will probably have a lot of blunders in the next few weeks, or at the least I will have a lot of questions. I wish there was an online FAQ I could refer to so I wouldn’t have to bother them much but I doubt if there’s one that would address all of my 1001 questions.
Tonight when I report for work, I will be (my boss’) Boden’s OM-in-training.

As if the country hasn’t been through so much in the months leading to Christmas, on Saturday MalacaΓ±ang issued Proclamation 1959 declaring Martial Law in the Province of Maguindanao. Their basis: rebellion.
Who is rebelling against who? Aren’t the Ampatuans in power, and in fact in liege with the President? I don’t think they’re rebelling against anyone. They have their own army, yes. They have a reported 2000-strong militia at their disposal, but they’ve been laying low since the events of November 23rd. Many don’t see the need for martial rule, specially since slow as it may have been, arrests are already happening and weapons have been seized.
It is not surprising that in a search done in the elder Ampatuan’s residence today, they found his bank-size vault empty. It was locked, but was found to contain NOTHING at all once it was unlocked. What would a vault be for if it would be kept empty? Looks to me like it was cleaned out recently. Then there are reports that some suspected to be involved in the massacre are hiding out in Metro Manila. O-K. So they flew all the way to Manila to hideout. Then the courts have ruled to transfer the hearing for the cases to Quezon City, miles and miles away from the court which would have had jurisdiction over the issue.
So what’s next? Will they expand Martial Law to include Metro Manila?
I loved it. I don’t know how close it was to the real life Julia Child and Julie Powell, but I so so so loved the movie π
They both had very supportive husbands, and my guy can definitely learn from their example (LOL). Nah. Alfred is actually very supportive of me and my baking exploits, and I am quite sure he would want me to learn cooking as well (oh he would definitely love that). My dad was able to catch some of the movie with me, and he was saying I should do that too – go through my baking books and blog about them. That’s what I’ve wanted to do for a long time, a lot of people are doing it anyway. I just can’t seem to commit time each day to actually do any baking (I think I’ve mentioned that at least once before).
Last week, they had the book on display at the bookstore, along with Julia Child’s memoirs and copies of Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I was tempted to buy them. But then I had to think – will I use it? Will I finally cook? Remember what happened to my beloved Sur La Table baking book Art & Soul of Baking? It was submerged in the flood without me actually cooking anything from it π
Like Julie, maybe I need a deadline to force myself to complete tasks that I set out to do.
Or not.
It was fascinating how Julia Child willed herself into getting into le Cordon Bleu. You could really see how much passion she had for food – both in preparing it, and eating. And what was her age when she started in all that? I still have a lot of time! π
I have a feeling that the extra money I’d be getting from my very recent promotion (yay me!) won’t be going to any additional life insurance quotes, but would be instead spent on baking/cooking ingredients or even maybe additional gear. Woohoo!
