I don’t know if this will actually take off or how much time and effort I’m going to be able to pour into this, but I’m venturing into doing blog makeovers. My repertoire is limited for now, but I’ll work on it 🙂
Back in the day (sounds like I’m refering to a long time ago don’t it?) I used to stay up in the wee hours of Sunday/Monday morning and watch episodes of the three CSIs (las vegas, miami, and new york). Sometimes I’d get to watch Chuck too. Since the move to the new team, and thereafter the change to weekdays off, I’ve been sleeping off most of my rest days. I’ve also been out shopping a lot instead. Hehe.
I was able to see an episode of CSI Miami the other day though. It must have been old because Speed was still around. Anyway, I used to just pass over DVD sets of CSI Â previous seasons when I see those at video stores thinking that CSI episodes are for one-time viewing only. I mean, once you see it, there’s not much point in watching the episodes again. I’ve since changed my mind, I think. I wouldn’t mind getting the boxed sets.
On Tuesday, we finally saw the movie that both Alfred and I have been waiting for. We had a nice, filling  lunch at House of Minis, also in Greenhills, right before the screening.
I felt that there are many aspects in which it could have been improved, but as it is, it wasn’t all that bad. In fact, I wouldn’t mind watching it again, and again. And again.
First, I didn’t really like the makeup. They’re all supposed to look gorgeous, perfect, god-like. Instead, they looked like hell. Except Emmet, and Victoria (didn’t she look prettier than Rosalie?). Jasper and Alice were a bit of a disappointment, not to mention Rosalie who was supposed to be the yardstick for beauty herself. But as the movie progressed, they did grow on me and I was able to get past the bad makeup.
Bellas’s voice. Okay, I had seen the trailer before so I was prepared to see the movie Bella and reconciled her to a smaller version I had seen in my mind while reading the books. But when I heard her speak, she felt more different to me. She looked and sounded stronger than the Bella in Twilight, the book. She was the inner Bella, you know what I mean? Meyer made her look fragile at first, one who needed protection – there was none of that in the movie version. It was like Edward’s need to protect her was unfounded. Hehe.
And where was Edward’s confidence and air? He looked the opposite of the confident young man I pictured him to be. He was always hunched over, even while walking.
They did an awesome job with the sunny sparkly scene. I think that was what I wanted to see the most. Hehe.Â
The movie was too short, in my opinion. Too short to really show the rest of the world who didn’t read the book, why millions have been hooked to the saga.
Anyway… We caught an early screening on a weekday so there weren’t a lot of people in the cinema. There was a group of elderly ladies who sat beside us. There were about four of them. Alfred and I looked at each other as they entered. We were wondering whether they had read the books, or had daughters/granddaughters who did. They quietly watched; in fact, I think Alfred and I were the noisiest in there.
So have you seen it? What do you think of it?
So is 2009 the year we spend our anniversary out of town?
Two years ago I told Alfred I wanted to spend a weekend out of town – Tagaytay specifically. He didn’t want to go because – ahh I don’t know why.
Last year, we were supposed to spend our anniversary weekend at this quaint resort in Laguna. It didn’t push through.Â
Last week we were talking about where we wanted to go. It has to be somewhere just near, and we wouldn’t need to spend too much money (because we don’t have much to spend). Tagaytay cropped up in the conversation again. Alfred mentioned that it would be so much easier if I could drive, then we’d have no problem with transportation. How true!
Me, drive? I don’t know much about cars, don’t know shit about suspension and steering rack. I watch Overhaulin, American Hot Rod, Top Gear, and all those other car shows on cable, but I cannot really drive. I know all about the theory, from tagging along and being at the backseat when my mom was taking her driving lessons from A1 more than a decade ago. But I cannot actually drive. I long for that freedom. The places we’d go see if only I could drive. Sigh.Â
But back to what I was saying… I really hope we do get to spend a weekend in Tagaytay in January. I can already sense busy weeks ahead of me. If the last week I had at work were any indication, I’ll be back to my long hours at work on a regular basis. In times like these, it would help keep me going if I had a weekend getaway to look forward to. 🙂
The musical was awesome! The cast was great. It was totally worth it, and we got good seats – really more than what I had expected. I had written some of my opinion over here, and perhaps some other time I’m going to say more here. Maybe 🙂
I really enjoyed my evening, and I know my parents did too. While we were seated and waiting for the show to start, Dad reminisced about seeing A Streetcar Named Desire with Mom many many years ago. He said it was before my birth and starred Philip Salvador (?) and Laurice Guillen. Ma, on the other hand, couldn’t remember anything of it other than the fact that they did go see it. Haha.
We’ve been home for five hours give or take and I’ve been surfing, checking mail, downloading. What I really wanted to do was work on another layout for Scrapbook Saturday. PSP just isn’t cooperating with me right now. And frankly, whatever inspiration I got for a layout went to sleep already. I’ll try again later.
On the way out of the office building earlier this evening, I noticed this new booth at the lobby selling health and diet supplements, you know, the ones that have protein and body-building stuff in the product line. I’d love to take a closer look at those sometime. I wonder if they say meal replacement shakes or protein bars? I’d love to try having those on some days. Might help, who knows.
Oh, I just saw a Twilight movie trailer – looks great! I wasn’t sold on the actor that plays Edward but seeing the trailer has changed my mind 🙂
The book and the movie versions, though sharing the main plot and principal characters, are independent of each other.Â
One could already feel the difference in treatment from the beginning of the movie – the interview scene. There was no attempt to lead Andy into thinking that Miranda was the sweetest person and the greatest boss. Andy had the same job and did pretty much the same insane tasks she did in the book version. Seriously, feels like Andy (and Emily for that matter) needed a streaming supply of energy pills just to survive. I’m surprised Miranda didn’t have pill-popping staff.
They gave Miranda’s character a redeeming feature in the movie – something she didn’t get in the novel. The book Andy was constantly smoking; and her relationship with her bestfriend Lily and boyfriend Alex was more central to the story than it was portrayed in film. Movie Emily was snooty through and through whereas they had shared some moments in the book version.Â
Ugh that writer Christian character was as yummy on paper as he was on film. But I’d prefer how Andy handled that part in the book. Just that the film version didn’t give Alex a fighting chance. Perhaps maybe that’s why they came up with a totally different character in Nate for the movie?
Reading Prada reminded me of Lisa Armstrong’s Front Row, probably one of the first books of this genre that I’ve read. Front Row’s fashion mag EIC is so different from Miranda – polar opposites! 🙂
