I don’t know the artist who sang the song but I have been listening and singing to this for the past three days 🙂 The lines are sooo cheesy and you’ve heard them before as the cheesiest pick up lines, Pinoy style. Everyone can relate! 🙂
If I were to have a prenup video, this would be a fun background music. Haha 🙂 Enjoy!
I know I said that I would have to consider giving away (or selling) books after I’ve read them, but I don’t think I’ll be doing that for Inkheart.
Yes it’s a novel written with young readers in mind, and I think that’s my absolute favorite genre of all time 🙂 Anyone who loves reading, and has a heart for books would definitely appreciate this novel. I guess it would be accurate to say that books are in the heart of this work of fiction.
However, I was a bit confused in the beginning because I couldn’t quite put a finger on what specific time the story was set to. 12-year-old Meggie and his book doctor father Mo seemed to be living in this world and this time, but what age specifically, I could not understand. The way the countryide was described, and how Mo makes a living, sounds so medieval. And why doesn’t Meggie’s dad have a real job like everyone else? Come to think of it, in all the characters in the book, it is only Fenoglio who has a “job” that is still relevant upto this day. Oh okay, maybe there are book restorers but I highly doubt it. I mean, if you were searching for jobs in Philadelphia for example, will you find a book doctor on the list? I don’t think so. Are there still jugglers and fire eaters that just go from town to town to earn a living? Okay, maybe there are. Yet, there are also elements of their setting that says they’re in the 21st century. Hmm. But you’d get over that confusion, or decide that it isn’t essential to the story after all.
I don’t normally review plots, characters, and other stuff you’d expect from proper book reviews, so if that’s what you’re after, go ahead and Bing it.
So why I do like Inkheart?
It tells about how reading takes you to places and allows you to go on adventures that otherwise would have been too dangerous for you. If you devote time to your reading and cherish each word, you can almost smell, touch and see into that world. Books feed the escapist in us, just as movies and TV shows do. 🙂
Each book is its own world and taking a character out and bringing them here would be like taking fish out of water. Pero, just like each person is different from another, some characters may be able to survive and adapt to our fast-paced world and make it their own. Malas nga lang kasi, it’s the bad guys who seem to have thrived in this world (dun lang naman sa book).
I envy Elinor and her house full of books. I’d always thought that when our family finally builds our own home, we’ll have a library or rows upon rows of bookshelves. But here we are, in what seems would be our permanent residence, and it’s too small to contain all the books we’ve every owned. But that’s okay. 🙂
We can’t choose the world we are born into, but we can definitely change our story. Diba? In Twilight, if I remember correctly, Edward said something about just playing with the cards you’re dealt with. But we can play the game to win, even if we have the losing hand. Parang ganun din yun, it’s not too late to change the outcome of your lifestory. Is this what Inkheart was really trying to teach us? I don’t think so. But that’s what I was thinking of by the end of the novel.
Had I known that this series has been out since 2008, I’d have looked all over the net to watch it. I was finally able to watch the catch-up marathon at the Sci-Fi Channel the day after Christmas. My dad suffered through the day watching with me, LoL.
The series is loosely based on “The Sword of Truth” series by Terry Goodkind. This series is one of two epic fantasy series that my brother and I followed through the years, the other one being “The Wheel of Time” by Robert Jordan. I used the word loosely because they didn’t strictly adhere to the books for the serialized TV version. Once you reconcile yourself with that, a true fan would be able to sit back and enjoy the shows. Of course, I’d still would prefer the original, but it isn’t so bad really.
Seeing this fantasy world on-screen made me want to reread the books. I haven’t even read Phantom and Confessor, the last two books, partly because I don’t really want the epic to end yet. Haha. My brother lent the first book, Wizard’s First Rule, to a friend and I don’t think we got it back so if I want to read them again I’d actually have to make another purchase. I wouldn’t mind that. Perhaps I’ll try looking for it in second hand bookshops 😉
Anyway, I can’t get enough of Bridget Regan; I love Kahlan, even when I’d much prefer to pronounce her name as Kah-lan, rather than Khay-lan as they do. They picked the perfect actress. I might just go ahead name a future daughter after her. 🙂
I loved it. I don’t know how close it was to the real life Julia Child and Julie Powell, but I so so so loved the movie 🙂
They both had very supportive husbands, and my guy can definitely learn from their example (LOL). Nah. Alfred is actually very supportive of me and my baking exploits, and I am quite sure he would want me to learn cooking as well (oh he would definitely love that). My dad was able to catch some of the movie with me, and he was saying I should do that too – go through my baking books and blog about them. That’s what I’ve wanted to do for a long time, a lot of people are doing it anyway. I just can’t seem to commit time each day to actually do any baking (I think I’ve mentioned that at least once before).
Last week, they had the book on display at the bookstore, along with Julia Child’s memoirs and copies of Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I was tempted to buy them. But then I had to think – will I use it? Will I finally cook? Remember what happened to my beloved Sur La Table baking book Art & Soul of Baking? It was submerged in the flood without me actually cooking anything from it 🙁
Like Julie, maybe I need a deadline to force myself to complete tasks that I set out to do.
Or not.
It was fascinating how Julia Child willed herself into getting into le Cordon Bleu. You could really see how much passion she had for food – both in preparing it, and eating. And what was her age when she started in all that? I still have a lot of time! 🙂
I have a feeling that the extra money I’d be getting from my very recent promotion (yay me!) won’t be going to any additional life insurance quotes, but would be instead spent on baking/cooking ingredients or even maybe additional gear. Woohoo!
For the first time, I joined in with this meme and here’s my Music Monday blog post. It includes the McLinky list of participants and you will notice that there are about 46 aside from myself. I tried to go through each entry, kick back and just do some sound tripping on this Monday afternoon. I was able to make it until #27 only.
Though I spent a lot of time going through the other bloggers’ entries, it was time well spent. It’s a much better use of my time than if I had to read through alli reviews, as well as lookup for more weight loss info, or compare what the diet pills work and what do not.
I’m glad I did Music Monday, I rediscovered some songs I already liked, while I was also able to admire new ones. It’s like my ears were opened up, hehe. 🙂
Let me share this video of Carrie Underwood, that I picked up from here.
