Par-tay!

My birthday is coming up in a few days – Friday is the day. I am turning 30!

WOW.

What’s happening then? I’m still not sure actually. I do want to spend the day with friends and family. I think a birthday dinner with everyone would be fun. More fun if I actually prepared it, but we all know I won’t be able to pull that off. Haha.

But where will I have it? Where will I get the food? I’ll have to organize it tomorrow so there’d still be time to invite people over after ironing out the details.

This will be tricky. Bwahaha Smile

Oooh… I had recently linked my Gmail email to my domain email so I can receive them in one place. that turned out messy because all my all mail is coming through. Although there’s good in it because I am reminded of old friends I made through an online group I was a part of. Like rediscovering this birthday page they made for me 4 years ago. So there’s good in going through old mail too. I even read a few messages from a group member who already died of cancer. That was a fun, tight group of women from all over the world. Hmm…

Anyhoo, I gotta round up some money for this birthday bash. I don’t intend to get anyone drunk (my friends aren’t really the drinking lot – except my YP friends), but I guess I’ll have to make provisions for some drinking. I don’t suppose going through a list of effective alcohol rehab treatment centers would do any harm, having that info must serve someone some good SmileHaha!

First Blood

I had a minor accident a few days ago – July 13th to be exact – I drew first blood.

No no no. There wasn’t any blood really. No one got hurt. Except my car. My green old/new Honda Civic. I planned on calling her Dale but it didn’t stick – we just call her the Honda or the Civic.

Since we got her, I’ve taken a lot of photos. All with the intention of posting them here – for posterity. Because I never got around to posting a proper introduction, her first public photo is going to be one of disaster –

FirstAccident

This was taken a few minutes after the accident, at the office parking lot. We had gone out to lunch, the 500 club and myself. It was a good day though because we hadn’t actually spent 500 each for lunch. We did have dessert though – King Kong’s Revenge at Iceberg’s. But I digress.

After lunch, Ric and I headed back to the office. Along Aurora Boulevard, just a stone’s throw away from our destination, I bumped on a jeepney. It was traffic, things were slow. It just happened. Details aren’t important.

I backed up. Stepped down. The driver inspected his vehicle, he was without any damage. I didn’t see it at first, but there it was – my right headlight was busted. Fragments were laying on the ground. He didn’t seem like he was done. We were causing traffic, so I said let’s move to the side. We looked at stuff again. I think the uzis were trying to get him to have me pay up. I said I didn’t cause the dents on his jeepney because I clearly didn’t hit that side. So, we’re good right? He says he just wants to make sure I wasn’t going after him. Of course not. So we parted, and I drove off.

And there goes my first car accident. Whew. At least I’m over it. And it wasn’t anything major, all are safe. No one was hurt. Lesson learned.

But it’s an expensive lesson. Since my personal tax software says I can only deduct losses on unpaid claims filed to insurance, I’ll most likely have to give up on any thoughts of Varekai. I’ll also probably give up on my bag lust for the Clay Planetes. And the boyfriend will definitely not get help from me to get himself a new ps3 slimline. Hahahaha. I’m exaggerating! But seriously. If human lives is the first consideration for why we must drive safely, second would be the cost of repairs! Winking smile

Dear Sophie

Indeed, the web is what we make of it.

While we should definitely have better safeguards for children on the Internet, here’s one way a parent can use the web to preserve memories.

Pencil Project

Thanks to Czaroma, I learned of this project that aims to bring pencils for indigent students.

I know nothing about Hotel with Heart, but I am hoping that they follow through with their claim and they really donate pencils to DTC’s Kariton Klasrum.

Go checkout their FB page and lend your digital signature in exchange for a donation of pencils.

I just remembered Nortehanon and her Pens of Hope. I should check back with her and find out if she’s accepting donations again for this school year.

Varekai & Incubus

These are two foreign acts coming to Manila in July. We want to see both. Since Alfred heard about Incubus’ coming here, he’s asked me to go. Since I noticed the Facebook ad for Varekai, I’ve wanted to go. It sucks that both costs a lot, and are happening in the same month.

Do you set aside a specific amount of money for entertainment each month? It’s just that we’ve been to the movies three times in three weeks, and all trips involved eating out as well. There have been dine outs in between too. It’s become really expensive.

I’m planning on a No Resto Week. I won’t eat in restaurants this week. If I have work, I’ll eat in the pantry or bring food. When we get home, it’s either home cooked or my Dad provides it. Or we’ll buy ulam from a carinderia. If my colleagues invite me to eat out (specially since it’s payday week), maybe I can convince them to pay for my meal, haha!

The money I’ll save will probably be able to pay for the cheapest ticket to Varekai for one person. I hear steiner binoculars won’t be necessary even with the lowest priced seat – the venue is intimate enough that everyone has a good view of the performers. Cool!

Alfred isn’t too sure about Incubus anymore, so that’s one expense we won’t have to shell out for. Smile

Why do I want to see Varekai so badly? It isn’t just the hype, nor is it because all the IT crowd go to see it. I’ve always wanted to see the greatest show on earth, and Cirque du Soleil promises that. I don’t have a bucket list, but if I did, seeing them perform is definitely going to be on it. A trip to Vegas isn’t in my near future, so them coming to the Philippines is a chance I just do not want to pass up.
