Mail Trouble and EC Thankies!

I haven’t started moving my blog to its new host at FatCow and I feel like I’m running out of time on my Dreamhost hosting. Since I decided to move to FatCow, I planned on transferring Badodong.com before I do that to my main blogs. That’s what I did, and although it’s not all done yet, Badodong.Com has it’s new gallery up as of this writing. I encountered a major hitch though: we can’t access any of the emails for that domain. No, the email inboxes are not hosted by Dreamhost, I had them setup with Google Apps. I wasn’t worried about losing mail because that wasn’t going to change so imagine my surprise when mail to his address started bouncing, and worse when he could not access them at all!

I’ve been emailing with Google Apps support but I have a feeling that they don’t understand what the problem is, despite the details I’ve provided. I am just hoping this gets sorted out soon so I can move this blog without worrying about my mailbox getting lost in the process. Oh well.

Rest days are supposed to be fun days but so far I’ve spent mine sleeping. I had a nasty headache and I had pain on my back while I was at work yesterday and all afternoon yesterday. So when I got home, all I could do was try to get some sleep. I wasn’t successful right away and I still got to have some bonding time with my baby nephew. The only time I was really awake was this morning already, just before the clock hit 9AM. So I lost soooooooo  much time. I couldn’t even really say I caught up on quality sleep because sleeping with a headache and some pain isn’t really comfortable. 🙁

Anyhoo, since it’s already the start of the love month, let me post my customary THANK YOU post for my top ten Entrecard droppers:

Also yesterday, we were supposed to go to Ace Water Spa and use the vouchers I recently bought. Because I wasn’t feeling well, we decided to postpone it. On the one hand I was thinking going would be good and might help me find relief, on the other, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the experience being in pain and all. So we missed an opportunity for some water fun. Ace Water Spa is unlike other spas that are so quiet. You won’t expect hot tubs with spa cover there, on the contrary all you would expect are hydrotherapy massages from their pool, plus hot water mineral baths that smell so good!

Hmm we really must go sooon!!!!

Safety at Construction Sites

By now, the accident at the Eton building construction site in Makati is old news. But to the families who lost their loved ones as a result of that accident, the news will never go stale.

I hope that this serves as an eyeopener for all who are in the construction business. Wherever you go in this country, you see buildings and houses being built with hardly enough safety precautions in place. To many, it seems that the reminder posted at the entrance of sites saying “No Hard Hat, No Entry” is enough. But it isn’t!

First off, I don’t think construction workers in this country wear protective clothing while they work. I understand the almost thread-bare shirts because the heat could stifle them if they wear anything thicker, but slippers while they work? What about gloves and proper carrying cases for their tools?

There’s usually netting and mesh all around the construction site, and the ABS-CBN News article about the Makati incident mentions an Eton representative saying that there was mesh around the building and that’s where the unfortunate victims fell on. But the mesh and netting isn’t for catching people is it? Those are not meant for the safety of construction workers. Those are meant to catch falling debris. So yes, it’s a safety net. But it’s not for the workers’ safety, but the safety of passersby and adjacent structures.

If there are laws or regulations about construction work then they need to be reviewed, and implementing guidelines need to be formulated and rolled out. The safety of the workers should be ensured. I don’t think they are paid nearly as much as they should be, so the least that can be done is to lessen the risk they take every time they go to work.

The Real Pulpy Deal

I just drank a bottle of Minute Maid Pulpy. They say it’s got ‘no preservatives added’. Aw, c’mon…It’s bottled juice. Is that even possible? So I thought maybe… I’ll give it a try. It tasted almost like freshly squeezed orange juice with real bits of fruit swirling around the bottle. Not too sweet, and even a tinge of tangy that characterizes citrus fruits.

I didn’t believe it the first time I heard it’s got no preservatives added.  So I read the ingredients (even the fine print) and everything checked out! It really has NO PRESERVATIVES ADDED!  That means it doesn’t have ingredients that may turn out to be allergens, or worse…carcinogens!  Whew! Now that’s healthy goodness that tastes so good, I… feel no guilt downing a big bottle of Minute Maid all by myself 🙂 No need to worry about harmful traces being left in your body either.

So okay, it’s got no preservatives added. That’s really good, right?  Not just because it doesn’t have those icky, harmful ingredients, but it also means… that you get all the nutrients from the fruit. Because it’s pulpy, you also get the fiber from orange that aids digestion, and is a friend for anyone who desperately needs to lose weight like myself!

So far anyone who still has a hard time believing that Minute Maid has got no preservatives added – meaning it’s THAT natural, it’s almost like it’s plucked straight from the tree, it’s just as Mother Nature wanted your orange juice to be, it’s got nothing but the good stuff yes, none of those potentially toxic stuff that can harm your brain, kidneys, heart; cause tumors aargh- the list of preservatives’ bad effects just go on!!! Anyway, just to prove a point on just how good Minute Maid Pulpy is ’cause it’s got NO PRESERVATIVES ADDED, I’m gonna show you just how much I love my Minute Maid Pulpy Orange – I took photos of my MM vendo experience from work! Haha 🙂 Yes! First, I was excited about the new kind of vendo we have at work and wanted to give it a try, butI was more thrilled seeing that it houses my favorite juice drink!

Before this yummy drink pictured above arrived at my station, it was in this neat vendo that also carried other Coca-Cola products (including my favorite beverage, Coke!):

Though I was tempted to grab a 500-mL bottle of Coke, or opt for the 5-peso cheaper can below this rack, I stuck to my guns and hit C7 on the panel. I promised myself I’d make the little adjustments necessary to get to a healthier me, and opting for this drink isn’t a sacrifice at all!

Here’s my drink on board the drink elevator:

And finally, the small door opens with my small bottle of cold pulpy goodness ready to be picked up.

Now, there’s no reason not to replace my daily soda intake with the healthy goodness of natural juice.

Feels good to know about the real pulpy deal, right? C’mon show me a smile on the comment box, and you might win yourself a Really Pulpy Deal! (That’s a chance to win a Minute Maid gift pack simply by commenting. Sweet! C’mon you just might be picked as the lucky ‘commentor’!)

Love,

The Town

I’ll see you again, this side or the other.

I saw this movie on DVD the other day and I truly enjoyed it. I expected dull moments because there wasn’t much hype around here about this film (and I honestly don’t remember it having been shown in local cinemas) but I also expected a decent plot because it came highly recommended by a colleague who loves watching movies. He was much surprised that it was Written and Directed by Ben Affleck. He did a splendid job, if I may say so.

The setting: Charlestown. The bank robbery capital of America. The protagonists: the bad guys – a band of bank robbers. It doesn’t help that characterization for the FBI isn’t one you would empathize with. My loyalty was definitely with the bad guys. The redeeming factor? Doug did genuinely want to leave it all behind.

While watching I couldn’t help but wonder if there really was a place in Boston called Charlestown, and there is. The locals (predominantly Irish-Catholic) were called Townies, and there were Tunies (also mentioned in the flick) who later on came in to populate the place as well. Apparently, there also was a time in its history when Charlestown did have that reputation for being highly concentrated with bank robbers, but that is a thing of the past. Like most other neighborhoods, it is populated by good people with a bit of the bad.

Here’s a photo of a street in Charlestown (source):

Apart from the awesome action scenes (car chase, gunfight, robbery), what was notable in the movie for me was how there was not much judgement for the robbers themselves. If anything, there was a sense of awe and respect for the way they planned the heist, along with the brilliant execution. For the most part, they seemed like normal people who had family and friends. Normal people who have had to deal with their own blown out personal issues. Funny how the streets of Charlestown actually felt safe even when you knew you were among criminals (as if I actually walked their streets :)).

I will have to say that even though some of the plot elements were predictable the treatment was fresh, and there were still some unexpected twists.

The film is based on a novel, can’t wait to lay my hands on that too.

Check out the trailer after the jump.

Ace Water Spa for only 299!

The Entry Fee at Ace Water Spa is normally priced at 550 pesos per adult, but at CashCashPinoy, they are offering discount coupons so you can get it at only 299 pesos! That is a steal!

The first and last time I was there was in 2008 – a very long time ago. Alfred hasn’t been there at all and the discounted price is a very good reason to make the trip happen. I’ll be buying at least four coupons!

Those will be just for the boyfriend and myself. I think Mom would probably ask for a couple of coupons for them too so she and Dad could take Esban back there at a discounted fee too. 🙂

I think it’s wonderful that sites like this are available in the Philippines now. There’s another one, Ensogo, that I’ve signed up for too. I bought coupons from there but haven’t used them yet. I’m thinking of giving the two coupons for Chef’s Bistro to Mom and Dad as a birthday gift for Dad.  Alfred and I were supposed to use them for our anniversary dinner the other day but we decided to eat somewhere else. Hmm…

Do you like getting deals like this? Sign up for CashCashPinoy, and also for Ensogo!
